How Sleep & Energy are BFF’S!
Posted by PR Neom
In our recent feedback, 39 percent of you said you felt flat and lacking energy, and 42 percent said that you were sleeping less well. Can we be honest? The last few months have been pretty tricky for us all, and it’s inevitable that sleep routines may have gone slightly (ok a lot) out of the window! Whether you’ve been working from home for 26 weeks, had the kids running wild or, just had brain overload, we know that sleep can be a struggle!
High-quality sleep is SUPER important and is a necessity to a successful day; not only does your body restore many functions overnight, but it also helps us to feel recovered and energised! Along with social connection, Clinical Psychologist Dr. Emma Hepburn says that it is one of the main predictors of good mental health. For more on that see here.
Autumn is almost here
How are you feeling about approaching Autumn as summer slowly comes to an end? Most of us seem to be clinging onto the last sunny days and have a slight dread for the upcoming months, as energy levels and motivation start to decrease. The days feel SO much shorter when the sun disappears, and as the clocks go back, your vitamin D stores may become depleted and can leave you feeling less energised. Your early morning gym session may become more out of reach, and you hit the snooze button on your alarm one too many times! LET’S CHANGE THAT! Our team at NEOM has a few tips that may provide you with a little boost of energy as we approach the Autumn months!
Move your body!
At NEOM, we are all about balance; we always recommend starting your day with a form of exercise that will get your body moving and help you to feel SUPER energised! Whether that is a simple stretch, walk, or workout, moving your body is SO important! When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins that interact with receptors in your brain to create a positive feeling of happiness. That immediately helps to create good vibes and boost your energy! The 10 Keys to Happier Living book states that ‘exercise can serve as a distraction from our worries and can help us get to sleep quicker and sleep more deeply.’ In this troubling time, it has never been more beneficial, and we agree!
How well do you sleep? It can be hard to get an early night and step away from your favourite Netflix series (especially during those lockdown months). But, it is important to regulate your sleep pattern and go to bed and wake at the same time every day (we will let you off on the weekends, of course). By maintaining the timing of the body's internal clock, you will fall asleep and wake up with ease, and therefore have a higher quality of sleep to help increase your energy for the day ahead! It can be a little tricky to start your night-time routine, however switching-off slightly earlier than usual will make this so much simpler. Turn off that tech, take a bath, and grab yourself a good book, and this will help you unwind and relax your mind in preparation for bed.
