2020 Wellness Trends You Need to Know

Is it just us, or does it feel like we’re ALWAYS reading about the latest wellness trend that promises to fix EVERYTHING? It can be hard to know which of them are actually worth your time because, remember, wellness isn’t about that one silver bullet...it’s about building your own wellbeing toolkit of things that work for you.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of our favourite 2020 wellness trends, NO GIMMICKS! Just some useful tips that will help you work towards a happier and healthier you.

And… Breathe

We’re all about mindful breathing here at NEOM (we call it our reboot breath - in for 7 seconds and out for 11 seconds), but did you know it’s one of the biggest wellness trends for 2020? It may sound too simple, but good breathing is vital to your mental and physical wellbeing.

How we breathe is becoming a more integrated part of teaching in the fitness world. Now, more personal trainers are leading classes that teach people how to maximise their breathing potential during workouts. Meanwhile, a wide range of breathing apps have skyrocketed in popularity this year.

When you’re trying out breathing exercises at home, place a Real Luxury Reed Diffuser nearby. Our Scent To De-Stress range is designed to reach a moment of calm and will allow you to disconnect from the busy world around you. Inhaling the tranquil fragrances of lavender and jasmine will help you to fully relax and focus on your breathing.

Blue Light Is BANISHED!

We’ve known for a while that blue light can be pretty bad for you. Looking at your screen too much, especially before bed, has been linked with insomnia and lower-quality sleep.

In 2020, brands got serious about sorting out this problem by offering blue light resistant glasses and ‘night shifts’ on devices to prevent overexposure. So it’s clearly on a lot of people’s mind. But here at NEOM, sometimes we think that it’s just better to do things the OLD FASHIONED way!

We say, BANISH the blue light by ditching any phones or screens before bed. Put your devices out of reach and get some lovely NATURAL light in your room by lighting a Bedtime Hero Scented Candle. Pick up a great book and breathe in the aromas of sweet chamomile, spicy ylang ylang and warming cedarwood as you relax before bed.

Your Living Room Is Your New Gym

Before 2020, home workouts were already pretty popular, but this year they’ve become MASSIVE. Since March, the home exercise bike brand Peloton has seen sales increase by 61%. More of us are spending time at home, so it’s only natural that home workouts should be a defining wellness trend of this year.

One way to maximise this wellness trend is to make sure that your fitness space is optimised for you to get the best workout possible. Squeeze a few drops of our Feel Refreshed Essential Oil Blend into your Wellbeing Pod before you start your routine. The invigorating scents of Sicilian lemon and fresh basil will help you to refresh and energise before your session.

Join The ‘Vurger Revolution’!

We’ve talked about our love for the ‘Vurger Revolution’ before at NEOM, and we think that the vegan ‘junk food’ trend will go from strength-to-strength in 2020. LEON’s delicious vegan burgers actually OUTSOLD their meat-based burgers this year and gourmet junk food heroes Honest Burger made our mouths water with their tantalising Bacon Plant Burger.

In general, more of us are giving plant-based diets a go, with over 400,000 people taking part in this year’s Veganuary. This wellbeing trend is not just exclusive to this year, but we think that in 2021 it could take off in a MUCH bigger way.

Although switching to a plant-based diet won’t automatically make you healthier, it could be an excellent way to get more fruit and veg into your diet. Getting your 5 a day helps to keep your gut healthy and has a ton of other health benefits. So remember to eat your greens!
